Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return Program

Our Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) Program is a humane, effective solution to reduce the number of homeless community cats while improving their health and quality of life. Instead of allowing cats to continue reproducing, TNVR helps stabilize colonies and gradually reduces the outdoor cat population over time. It is recognized nationwide as the most effective approach to managing community cats.

How TNVR Works

Trap: Community cats are humanely trapped using specialized live traps.

Neuter/Spay: Each cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and receives a small ear tip, which is the universal sign that a community cat has been sterilized.

Vaccinate: Cats receive core vaccinations to help protect them and the surrounding community from preventable diseases. Additional treatments, such as flea prevention or parasite control, may be provided when available.

Return: After a short recovery period, healthy cats are returned to the location where they were found. Community cats are typically not socialized to people and thrive best in their established outdoor territory.

Why TNVR Matters

TNVR helps:

  • Prevent thousands of unwanted kittens from being born.
  • Reduce nuisance behaviors such as fighting, spraying, and loud mating.
  • Improve the health of community cats through vaccination and sterilization.
  • Decrease shelter intake and euthanasia.
  • Create healthier neighborhoods for both cats and people.

Our Commitment

Whiskers and Tails is committed to reducing pet overpopulation through compassionate, community-based solutions. Working with volunteers, caregivers, and local residents, we provide TNVR services that save lives while addressing the root cause of cat overpopulation.

If you’ve discovered a colony of community cats or would like to help through trapping, transportation, fostering kittens, or sponsoring surgeries, we’d love to work with you. Together, we can make a lasting difference, one tipped cat at a time.

We do have traps available for rent. We require a deposit for trap rentals. Please email clinic@whiskers-tails.org if you need to rent a trap.

If you need help with trapping, or have questions, please email Ashley at PBAATNR@gmail.com
